Mock Draft Review
Covering the impact of coronavirus on the sports world
The New Orleans Saints lost a starting cornerback this offseason, and a new report claims they are looking at adding to the position before the start of the regular season. On Monday, Jeff Duncan of NOLA.com reported that the Saints are exploring the trade market for potentially available cornerbacks — including C.J. Henderson of the Jacksonville Jaguars.
On Sunday, a surprising report from ESPN claimed that the Jaguars were shopping Henderson. The University of Florida product was selected by the Jaguars with the No. 9 overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, and recorded 36 combined tackles, six passes defensed and one interception in eight games before his season was ended by a groin injury. Jacksonville apparently likes their other cornerbacks a bit more at this juncture, as the Jaguars signed former Seattle Seahawks corner Shaquill Griffin to a big three-year deal and drafted former Georgia cornerback Tyson Campbell with the first pick in the second round of the 2021 NFL Draft.
As for the Saints, they could stand to upgrade at the cornerback position. While they signed veteran Prince Amukamara, Brian Poole and drafted Paulson Adebo out of Stanford in the third round, the Saints also lost starter Janoris Jenkins and reserve defensive back Justin Hardee Sr. The Saints finished with the No. 4 overall defense in the league in 2020, allowing an average of 310.9 yards of total offense per game. They also had the No. 5 passing defense in the league. With the Saints working in a new quarterback, success on the defensive side of the ball is going to be even more important in 2021.
