We take a look at the full slate of sports on the schedule for the 2021 Tokyo Summer Olympics, including four never-before-seen Olympic sports.
The 2021 Olympic Games in Tokyo will have the most disciplines of any Olympics ever, with 33 different sports competing for 339 different gold medals overall. You can check out the entire list of sports and the events included here.
While some will have just one podium ceremony in a sport for both men and women (baseball/softball, basketball, 3×3 basketball, beach volleyball, football, handball, hockey, triathlon, volleyball, water polo), swimming tops the program with a total of 35 gold medals available (17 for men, 17 for women, one mixed event).
The games are listed take place over the traditional 16 days, with a Friday, July 23rd Opening Ceremony and a Sunday, August 8th Closing Ceremony. Though the Closing Ceremony will signal the end of all Olympic competition, some sports such as softball, soccer, and a few others will begin competition in the two days leading up to the games, July 21 and 22.
