COLLINSVILLE, Okla. — A Tulsa man is in custody, accused of trying to initiate a sexual relationship with an 11-year-old girl.
20-year-old Cameron Martin was arrested by both the Collinsville Police Department and Homeland Security this week.
The investigation began last month when the child’s mother found sexually explicit messages on Snapchat between her daughter and a man she didn’t know.
According to a police report, Martin was arrested after a search warrant was served at his Tulsa apartment. The report also says that Martin admitted to meeting the child on Snapchat and saying that he didn’t have a problem with her age.
Police say Martin also admitted to getting sexually explicit pictures of the girl. Police say he also sent pictures to her. Martin allegedly drove to Collinsville to see the child, who had agreed to meet with him to have sex.
Her mother, however, found out what was going on and stopped the meeting before it happened. Detective Josh Ray says the probability of the girl being raped was just “mere moments away.”
Ray says this is an example that any child can be a victim. He also said that this is not the first investigation of this kind in Collinsville.
Many of them involve Snapchat, which he believes is appealing to predators because pictures and message automatically disappear unless a user chooses to save them.
He believes there may be more victims in this case and is urging parents to be aware, talk with their children, and contact him at 918-371-1000 if they have information.
Martin is in the Tulsa County Jail facing charges of Exhibiting Obscene Movie/Photos of a Minor, Lewd Proposal to a Minor, and Soliciting Sexual Conduct by Technology. His bond is $50,000.
